A gorgeous mini Heart carving made from Carnelian Agate, a stone known for it's fiery red hues. It owes its colouring to colloidally dispersed hematite (iron oxide)

Fun Facts:

•  'Carnelian' comes from the medieval Latin word 'Corneolus' which is in reference to the 'Cornelian Cherry' plant native to Southern Europe 
• Pieces of Carnelian were recovered from Bronze Age Minoan layers at Knossos in Crete, in a form that demonstrates its use in decorative arts dated to approximately 1800BC
